Columbia College will welcome students back to its locations for full-time, in-person classes beginning Monday, August 30. The college featured a hybrid learning model for classes during the FY21 school year. However, with declining cases of the COVID-19 virus in many areas and vaccination efforts in full force, the college will transition back to a more traditional modality of instruction.
“We are thrilled to bring our students back to campus this fall and showcase the quality educational experience and the energetic environment Columbia College is known for,” said Interim President David Russell. “A strong relationship with faculty, staff and classmates is essential for our students and holding classes in-person solidifies those relationships. These decisions are based on the circumstances we are aware of right now. If conditions related to the pandemic change, we are fully prepared to revisit these decisions.”
Protocols the college put in place during the 2020-21 school year were highly effective in limiting the spread of the virus. Some will continue to be implemented, such as wearing masks in classrooms and encouraging social distancing. While the college is not requiring returning students, faculty and staff take the COVID-19 vaccinations to return to campus at this time, college officials are strongly encouraging them to receive the vaccine per recommendations from the CDC and local health departments.
Several members of the college’s staff have been working virtually or in a hybrid environment since the beginning of the pandemic. Most employees will begin the process of returning to work on campus this summer with a focus on returning to a full, in-person workforce by August 9, 2021.
